Membership Meeting Information
Matt Gamble from EnergyPrint, Inc. came to speak on energy rates and the impact a data center can have. Fourteen known data centers in the works in Minnesota currently. They have the potential to increase energy usage by 10%. He urges consumers and businesses to lobby for guardrails and safeguards to ensure data centers pay for the new infrastructure they require. He also cautions about how peak demand rates can have a large impact on the rates being charged and that everyone is aware of a data center can impact this. Barry Schmidt (Superintendent, Pine Island Schools): Barry discussed the importance of voting for Minnesota’s Permanent School Fund, and not to leave this vote blank while voting. Minnesota’s Permanent School Fund is one of the oldest funding sources for public education in our state. It is built on proceeds from public lands set aside to support public education. It acts as a permanent endowment, continually generating revenue from Minnesota’s natural resources. You can find more information here:
Stephanie Holland (Workforce Development): Workforce Development has several conferences and series coming up in the next few weeks!
“Building a stronger workforce together” regional half-day conference will be held September 22. There will be employer panel and student panel there to discuss what they are experiencing in today’s workforce, and there will also be breakfast!
A few of their other events happening include, training series for AI skills for Today’s workplace, as well as a Nonprofit Workforce development series.
